Convoy of Hope is working with partners in the region to procure relief supplies and meet the needs of survivors of the floods in Libya. Working with local partners, Convoy will provide essential relief supplies to people in the disaster zone. The greatest needs are food, water, baby supplies, hygiene products, and shelter.
Search-and-rescue efforts continue throughout many of Libya’s coastal cities. Massive floods washed away entire communities last week, causing what is reported as more than 11,300 fatalities and tens of thousands missing. More than 63,000 people are displaced in the entire affected region.
Waterborne illnesses are a serious health risk. At least 150 people were poisoned by drinking polluted water due to the damaged infrastructure. Nearly 300,000 children are at risk of various diseases and malnutrition.

Convoy of Hope is working with partners in Egypt to procure products and get them to survivors of the floods that devastated Libya earlier this week.
The office of Derna’s mayor Abdel Moneim al-Ghaithi said the death toll could rise to 20,000 — around a fifth of the city’s population — as search efforts continue.
“The situation is very large and surprising for the city of Derna. We were not able to confront it with our capabilities that preceded the storm and the torrent,” al-Ghaithi told Sky News Arabia.
With hospitals and morgues overflowing, thousands of bodies are being buried in mass graves. The situation remains dire with significant health risks. Waterborne illnesses are especially a concern as damaged infrastructure limits access to clean water and sanitation.

Convoy of Hope is responding to the devastating flooding in Libya by providing survivors with water and desperately needed baby formula.
Northeast Libya experienced massive flooding earlier this week, killing at least 5,300 people and displacing another 30,000. Currently, 10,000 people are still missing.
Mediterranean storm Daniel caused more than 16 inches of rain to fall in just six hours. The rain overwhelmed two dams and sent a deluge of water through the coastal city of Derna. The International Committee of the Red Cross reported a 23-foot wave had wiped out entire buildings. Homes, neighborhoods, and all three bridges in Derna are completely destroyed, severely hampering relief efforts. Much of the city is covered in mud.
Convoy is responding with the relief supplies survivors desperately need as they grieve, take care of their families, and look to rebuild their lives.
