The Future Engineer
“I don’t like to see my parents worried,” said 13-year-old Denis. Watching his family struggle for basic necessities became commonplace throughout his childhood. “I know it’s not their fault, but in the future, that will change when I fulfil my dreams.”
With the help of Convoy of Hope’s Children’s Feeding Program in Nicaragua, Denis is determined to break the cycle of poverty for his family.
Until recently, food insecurity was simply a way of life for Denis. When he had enough to eat, he loved to listen to music, spend time with his friends and family, play soccer, and volunteer at his local church. But the threat of hunger always loomed. When nutritious meals were scarce, Denis’ ability to focus in school and enjoy everyday activities went by the wayside.
Now, thanks to Children’s Feeding, Denis has a consistent source of healthy, enjoyable meals. “Convoy’s food is a great blessing and I like it very much,” he said. “I feel more spirited and strong!”
With a full stomach, Denis can now focus in class and pursue his dreams. Denis loves math and studies hard so that he can get good grades and have a stable career. His ultimate goal is to become a systems engineer.
Denis is healthy, motivated, and eager to change the course of his loved ones’ lives. However, he still goes out of his way to show his gratitude for those who support him.
“You and the Convoy of Hope are angels to me,” he said.
